Shopify Editions Fall 2026: What UK Merchants Need to Know

5 Min Read

Shopify Editions Fall 2026 brings a redesigned admin, new security controls, fraud tools, checkout custom fields, AI shopping agents and UK shipping options. With Black Friday on 27 November, most UK stores should act on the security and fraud changes now, plan checkout and international changes for January, and watch the AI features for now.

The short version

  • Do now: check your apps for script tags, restrict app API access by IP, look at Shopify Protect’s new fraud controls, and warn your team about the new admin.
  • Plan for January: checkout custom fields, Managed Markets and rollouts if you sell abroad, and improved predictive search.
  • Watch: AI agents selling through ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and the new Canvas design tool. Get your product data in order either way.

Shopify’s Fall ’26 Edition page has the full list. Most features are marked as rolling out or coming soon, so check what’s live on your store before planning around it.

Why not try everything now?

Black Friday is on the 27th, and the run-up to your busiest weekend is the worst possible time to try something shiny. Most of what Shopify announced is useful. Very little of it is urgent. The changes worth making this month are the ones that cut risk without touching code.

What should UK merchants do before Black Friday?

Change Why it matters Needs a developer?
Script tag retirement Storefront app code has to move to newer methods Your app developers, not you
App API IP restrictions A stolen app token is far less use to anyone No
Passkeys Switched on automatically for eligible accounts No
Shopify Protect updates Block high-risk orders before authorisation No
DHL Express and Royal Mail pickup New UK shipping options in the admin No
Redesigned admin New navigation as it rolls out No, but warn your team

Script tags

Apps can no longer create or update script tags, so storefront app code has to move to theme app extensions or web pixels. According to Shopify’s developer docs, Shopify stops loading script tags on 1 March 2027, and app features that still rely on them will stop working. You may need to switch on the app’s embed in your theme once it’s moved.

Ask the developers behind your storefront apps whether they’re affected and when they’re moving. An app developer who can’t answer that is worth a closer look. Our post on Shopify app security covers how to review your apps.

Security controls

Shopify is letting merchants restrict which IP addresses can call the API for each app. Passkeys now turn on automatically for eligible accounts at sign-in. And a filterable activity log is on the way, showing which staff member, app or service changed what. When it lands, that’s the first place you’ll look if something on the store moves and nobody owns up.

Fraud

Shopify Protect is getting the ability to block high-risk orders before they’re authorised, plus custom fraud rules you can test against past orders. Shopify says merchants are winning 60% more “product not received” disputes. If it reaches your store before peak, it’s an admin setting rather than a code change, so it won’t break your code freeze.

UK shipping and the admin

If you ship from the UK, DHL Express labels and Royal Mail pickup points are both now in the admin. Neither needs a developer.

And warn your team about the redesigned admin. Nobody wants to be hunting for the orders page on Cyber Monday.

What should you plan for January?

Checkout custom fields are rolling out, covering things like delivery instructions, gift messages and dates. Plenty of stores install an app for exactly that, so check whether you can switch it off once the native version reaches you. One less app is one less company with code on your checkout.

Managed Markets shows international customers an all-in price with duties and taxes included. Shopify says brands using it saw 50% higher international conversion. If you sell abroad, look at it properly in the new year.

Rollouts let you schedule a launch with its theme, checkout, catalogue and discounts together, and put promotional prices back automatically when a sale ends. That’s a big help for anyone running seasonal sales across more than one market.

Predictive search is getting better. Shopify says add to carts from search are up 8%, which matters because people who search have usually decided to buy.

Canvas is Shopify’s new tool for designing the whole store in one view. It’ll be useful for a redesign, but don’t let a new design tool become the reason for one.

What about AI agents and Sidekick?

The AI agent side is what everyone will talk about. Shoppers will be able to find products and check out with Shop Pay from inside agents like ChatGPT and Claude, and through Google’s AI Mode and Gemini. Sidekick, Shopify’s assistant in the admin, now handles multi-step jobs, and Shopify says daily use is up 4.2 times on last year.

It’s early. You don’t need a strategy for it in November. But do one thing now. Agents read your product data, not your homepage, so titles, descriptions, specs and compare-at prices all need to be accurate and complete. Shopify Catalog now has an eligibility check that tells you what to fix. Run it.

Which features need Shopify Plus?

Shopify’s page rarely says which plans get which features, so check each one in your admin or with Shopify before you plan around it. If a feature you want turns out to be Plus-only, our guide on when to move from Shopify to Shopify Plus covers whether it’s worth it.

How should you prioritise?

Pick the two things that fit your store and your calendar, and do them properly. For most UK brands that means the security changes now and Managed Markets or checkout fields in January. Get those right and the questions next spring are better ones, like how to handle the extra international orders.

Frequently asked questions

When was Shopify Editions Fall 2026 released?

Shopify published the Fall ’26 Edition in late October 2026. Many features are rolling out gradually, so they may not all be on your store yet.

Do I need to do anything about script tags?

Check with the developers of any app that adds features to your storefront. Shopify stops loading script tags on 1 March 2027, so apps need to move before then. You may need to switch on the new app embed in your theme.

Is Shopify Protect available in the UK?

Check your admin. Shopify doesn’t say clearly which regions and plans get each update, and availability can change during rollout.

Should we sell through AI agents?

Not as a priority this year. Make sure your product data is complete and accurate, which helps search and marketplaces anyway, and revisit it once the features are fully rolled out.

How we can help
